| Moving time! |
[Jul. 11th, 2004|06:12 pm] |
This is going to be my last post at livejournal.
It occured to me a while back that i use this place more as a blog than a journal. Accordingly, it would make sense for me just to have a blog.
Laziness, however, prevented me from doing anything.
That is until i read this article and realized that i didn't really want people to associate me with those sorts of crazy people. No offense to reasonable live journal users, but a whole lot of people round here are just fucking nuts.
So im moving on over to blogspot, and i think its going to be good. Same basic functions, sans society of self absorbed nutcases.
My url, www.brianterrel.tk will remain the same. |

| Re-inforcing my paranoia |
[Jul. 11th, 2004|03:01 pm] |
I tend to be a bit paranoid by nature, so i take steps to insure that i don't end up being a nutty conspiracy type. However, for the last couple of years i've been joking that "The Bush administration will probably decide that its too dangerous to hold elections, because of the 'war on terror'"
That being said, it really messes me up when i read stuff like this. Do i see that as validating a rather conspiracy oriented train of thought? Do i look at it as simply a coincidence? Should i trust in the good faith of GW and company (fat chance!)?
Stuff like this makes me nutty: "officials concede they have no intel about any specific plots. But the success of March's Madrid railway bombings in influencing the Spanish elections—as well as intercepted "chatter" among Qaeda operatives—has led analysts to conclude "they want to interfere with the elections," says one official."
So they have nothing in particular...but they want the apparatus in place for them to postpone the election...
Sometimes i just don't know what to make of it all |

| The "Liberal" Media |
[Jul. 10th, 2004|03:36 pm] |
I think everyone ought to read this series of articles covering the response to F911 from the "liberal" voices in the media. Its not so much about F911 as it is about the inherent bias in the mainstream media towards conservatives.
Anyhow, thats all i have for today, later peoples |

| Some More Politics |
[Jul. 3rd, 2004|10:34 am] |
From this arcticle:
"But the damage they have done to our country is not limited to misallocation of military economic political resources. Whenever a chief executive spends prodigious amounts of energy convincing people of lies, he damages the fabric of democracy, and the belief in the fundamental integrity of our self-government."
Thats right, its more Gore. What can i say...he's just the sort of "boring" intellectual that i think we need in charge. |

"The Deer Lay Down Their Bones" by Robinson Jeffers:
I followed the narrow cliffside trail half way up the mountain Above the deep river-canyon. There was a little cataract crossed the path, flinging itself Over tree roots and rocks, shaking the jeweled fern-fronds, bright bubbling water Pure from the mountain, but a bad smell came up. Wondering at it I clam- bered down the steep stream Some forty feet, and found in the midst of bush-oak and laurel, Hung like a bird's nest on the precipice brink a small hidden clearing, Grass and a shallow pool. But all about there were bones Iying in the grass, clean bones and stinking bones, Antlers and bones: I understood that the place was a refuge for wounded deer; there are so many Hurt ones escape the hunters and limp away to lie hidden; here they have water for the awful thirst And peace to die in; dense green laurel and grim cliff Make sanctuary, and a sweet wind blows upward from the deep gorge.--I wish my bones were with theirs. But that's a foolish thing to confess, and a little cowardly. We know that life Is on the whole quite equally good and bad, mostly gray neutral, and can be endured To the dim end, no matter what magic of grass, water and precipice, and pain of wounds, Makes death look dear. We have been given life and have used it--not a great gift perhaps--but in honesty Should use it all. Mine's empty since my love died--Empty? The flame- haired grandchild with great blue eyes That look like hers?--What can I do for the child? I gaze at her and wonder what sort of man In the fall of the world . . . I am growing old, that is the trouble. My chil- dren and little grandchildren Will find their way, and why should I wait ten years yet, having lived sixty- seven, ten years more or less, Before I crawl out on a ledge of rock and die snapping, like a wolf Who has lost his mate?--I am bound by my own thirty-year-old decision: who drinks the wine Should take the dregs; even in the bitter lees and sediment New discovery may lie. The deer in that beautiful place lay down their bones: I must wear mine. |

| Fahrenheit 911 |
[Jun. 17th, 2004|07:26 pm] |
Well, once again Michael Moore has everyone up in arms.
Lots of people are decrying his newest film as anti-bush rhetoric, but the buzz around is that its actually a powerful and affecting documentary.
Hell, even Fox News has something good to say about it!
Unfortunately, there is now a republican tied PR firm trying to get a "grass roots" movement going to intimidate theatres into not showing the film. On their website they list the e-mail addresses and phone numbers of a number of theatre representatives.
I've taken the time to compile these into a handy form so that they can be copied into the "BCC" section of an e-mail. If you're so inclined, i'd encourage you to send a mail to these people in support of showing F911.
Here is the list for theatres who've decided to show it:
brian_blatchley@loewscpx.com,michael_norris@loewscpx.com,kerry_moots@loewscpx.com,John_mccauley@loewscpx.com,john_walker@loewscpx.com,maura_Campbell@loewscpx.com,lorim@landmarktheatres.com,MattL@landmarktheatres.com,dianea@landmarktheatres.com,hughw@landmarktheatres.com,magnolia@landmarktheatres.com,comments@landmarktheatres.com,info@little-theatre.com,marketing@little-theatre.com,info@drexel.net,Skip@TheAvon.com,Cameranet@aol.com,info@rialtoarts.com,film@savoytheater.com
And here is the list for theatres which are still considering whether or not to show it:
dgurin@regalcinemas.com,mcampbell@regalcinemas.com,amiles@regalcinemas.com,gdunn@regalcinemas.com,pbrandow@regalcinemas.com,barry.brown@regalcinemas.com,rwinograd@regalcinemedia.com,robbya@regalcinemas.com,kevink@regalcinemas.com,ddelaria@regalcinemas.com,gslayton@amctheatres.com,gthyer@amctheatres.com,vdaniels@amctheatres.com,mcook@amctheatres.com,Mmcdonald@amctheatres.com,Jmcdonald@amctheatres.com,Psingleton@amctheatres.com,Jbeynon@amctheatres.com,Kconnor@amctheatres.com,fred@carmike.com,philip@carmike.com,film@carmike.com,do07@carmike.com,do12@carmike.com,do14@carmike.com,Jacque_clark@centurytheatres.com,Chris_OKelley@CenturyTheatres.com,Nancy_Klasky@centurytheatres.com,David_shesgreen@centurytheatres.com,Victor_Castillo@centurytheatres.com,srodriguez@manntheatres.com,jhebert@manntheatres.com,info@manntheatres.com,comments@manntheatres.com,rjansson@manntheatres.com,jhanson@national-amusements.com,mdixon@national-amusements.com,operations@national-amusements.com,jwelman@crowntheatres.com,hcleveland@crowntheatres.com,cdugger@crowntheatres.com,zcole@crowntheatres.com,bmcmannis@gqti.com,mjohnson@gqti.com,Goodrich@gqti.com,dkerasotes@kerasotes.com,tjohnson@kerasotes.com,kjohnson@kerasotes.com,joanvoelzke@marcuscorp.com,stevemarcus@marcuscorp.com,bruceolson@marcuscorp.com,ghill@wallacetheaters.com,marketing@wallacetheaters.com,service@wallacetheaters.com,astone@consolidatedth.com,customerservice@consolidatedth.com,ctortolano@pacifictheatres.com,cdougher@clearcin.com,wsalisch@clearcin.com,dlewis1@clearcin.com
Just copy and paste either of those into the "BCC" field and it will go to all of them, but they won't be able to see who else it goes to. I'd recommend you use your own address for the "To" field, that way nobody's address is given away. |

| Its cryin' time |
[Jun. 13th, 2004|02:01 pm] |
The Hunter's Allegory by Olive Schreiner caused me to shed five happy tears today.
I'm happy that i am the person i am today.
I'm happy that i value truth and beauty over peace, comfort, or security.
I'm happy that i understand that things which hurt can still be beautiful, and that often it is their beauty which wounds so deeply.
I'm happy to know that truth is beautiful because it hurts us most of all, and then wounds us again by being so elusive.
I'm happy that i woke up today.
It's a good day. |
